Makeup Forever Birthday Gift!

Yes, my birthday is in the month of February! So naturally, I had to go to my local Sephora to get my birthday gift.... (A perfect excuse to go shopping there as well!) My Beauty Insider birthday gift was this Makeup Forever box!

Inside was a mini lipstick and a mini mascara. The packaging of both are very sleek shiny black; they look very high-end. They are sample sizes, but there is quite a bit of product in each!

Now for starters, I tried the lipstick out. They gave out a very generic neutral light/natural red that would fit any
skin tone. Its colour is very similar to one of my favourite Clinique lipsticks, so obviously I was super pumped for this one. Well, sorry guys.. I was let down big time. Yes the colour is quite lovely as you can see in the close-up picture of my lips down below, but there are a few flaws with this formula. Firstly, it's actually more on the sheer side! When I applied it to my lips, I really had to build it up to get good pigmentation. Which is kind of weird because Makeup Forever has two kinds of lipstick: The "Rouge Artist Intense" and the "Rouge Artist Natural", and this one is actually from the intense line! I can't imagine what the natural is like... Furthermore, its wearing time is really quite sad... The colour lasts for maybe half an hour, before it basically completely disappears. And finally, my last disappointment with this lipstick was the effect the formula had on my lips! It glides on smoothly, I'll give it that. But after about five minutes it dries right out! Which ultimately, dries your lips out with it. So I experienced some lovely chapped ragged lips for the rest of the day. Just swell. Thanks Makeup Forever.
It only stayed this nice for like two minutes!
That being said, in case you guys were curious, here is the link to it...

Now moving on, the mascara is a bit of a different story. As you can see in the picture, the brush goes from decently thick on the outer side to nice and thin on the inner. This makes it quite easy to create a nice smoked out lash effect on the outside while having no difficulty defining the little baby ones on the inside! I will warn you all though, this mascara is much better when applied after eyeliner. If you are going for a no-eyeliner look for the day, skip this one and use a different one. Because the brush is so thick, it does touch the eyelid a bit, so if you have eyeliner on, you won't see that as it will blend in with it. Overall, it gave my lashes some great thickness and even some length too which I was not expecting. I would definitely suggest this mascara for days or nights where you are going for a more dramatic look.
buy the mascara here!

That's the way I see it!

P.S. This is the finished look I wore that day featuring the mascara and lipstick!
